When is Mother’s Day?

In New Zealand, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May. This means Mother’s Day takes place on Sunday May 12 in 2024, and on Sunday May 11 in 2025.

Mother’s Day origin

Mother’s Day in New Zealand is celebrated the same as in the United States. However, it is an Australian who is credited with having started the tradition of giving gifts on Mother's Day. In 1924 Janet Heyden started a campaign to collect gifts for lonely aged mothers.
